Hi there,

I have some footage that was shot on HDV and I want to bring it into final cut pro, down convert it to SD and put it on Mini DV.

Anyone know how to do this?

PLEASE HELP OH GENIUSES OF THE MESSAGE BOARD!

Does your deck or camcorder downconvert when transferring there?

Have you looked at digitizing to HDV, and then using an advanced conversion in Compressor?

Also help us out with what cam, and what version of FCP on what Mac.

What kind of HDV? If it's 1080, you can import it through a Canon HDV camcorder like an HV20 and just tell it to force its firewire output to be DV, and it'll do the conversion for you on the fly.

I have a Canon hv30.

Barry,

How do I force its firewire output to be DV?

Thanks!

I'd start with the owners guide, not to put too fine a point on it but that's one of those functions the manual typically describes step by step.

You can do it either way. The in-camera way will result in much faster editing and mastering, but you'll be working with standard-def footage. If you need a high-def master, import it as HD and finish it as HD, and then render out a DV version.
