HDV to HDcam Selects Master

(:mods I have done the evil double post... please forgive me.)

So I am shooting a ton of Tourism Footage. I want to find the best path to uncompressed as possible for final out to HDcam master.

Should I import into FCP 5 as HDV 60i, do my selects...then export as 10bit uncompressed HD? or should I use microcosm?

I was going to put all selected elements out to a drive to imported into a AVID DS for Color Correction and output to HDCam.

What is the best path...

Thoughts....

A way to accomplish this is to get out of the HDV format as you digitize using an intermediate codec like Cineform. I believe that Cineform converts HDV to 1920 1080i 4:2:2 then edit and output HD-SDI. I have done this and this workflow works well (aside from issues with PPro)

If FCP5 edits HDV natively as advertised can't you edit and then just output HD-SDI? Either way you go I would be careful converting from HDV to FCP5 then to AVID there's a lot of potential for stepping on the image and not looking as good as it should.

Doesn't Avid Xpress Pro edit HDV natively? If so is editing in Avid and staying in Avid out of the question?

Why go uncompressed HD when your delivery format is a compressed HD 3:1:1 at 145Mb/s coming from a source that is even more compressed at 25Mb/s? Use an interim codec as suggested -

Thanx Guys,
The problem I have is I live along ways from where the AVID DS system is and I want to compile my selects here in HDV and deliver them to a format that the AVID DS likes and won't destroy, and have the highest quality output to HDCam.

I don't want to go into FCP with HDV---edit then export to HDV to import into the AVID DS.

Probably the best bet would be to contact the post production facility and see if they are using an intermediate format like Cineform. I would also imaging that if the post house has HDCam machines that they should have FCP workstations that you could connect a disk to transfer into the Avid directly and avoiding have to back to HDV.

Thanx ChuckS that was very much in my thinking of bringing the drive in, with my source elements and edit. Then possibly output out of the FCP, capturing directly into AVID DS.

Do the CC in AVID DS then out to HDcam.
