HDV Slow Mo In After Effects? Really Jumpy

I'm having some trouble with slow motion within after effects. I import the footage into after effects and RAM preview, everything is fine. I then try to slow the footage down to 50% and I get really jumpy footage. When I RAM preview I can see that it seems to play one or two frames, then skip back a frame. I cannot understand why this is happening. Any help?

Using canon xha1s shotting HDV 50i. Captured with Premiere pro cs4, using After effects cs3.

Thank you

Could you explain how I could do this?

With your comp selected, go to "add to render queue" under the composition menu. Then select your output module/location and hit render. Play your rendered file back to see if the problem is in your rendered file. From there someone could better diagnose where the problem lies.

When the footage jumps forward and backward like that it is usually because your fields are reversed. Although you said it plays fine normally and only happens when you play it in slow motion (which I haven't seen) it couldnt hurt to reverse the fields and give it a try. It only takes a couple seconds.

Right click on the footage and select interpret footage and in the field order change it from upper to lower (or vice versa) and see if that fixes your problem. It might not work because you should see the forward and backward motion in regular play also but it's worth a shot.

I've just changed the codec i was using and it seems to be ok now. The only problem i have is that when exporting, the file size goes from about 50mb to about 500mb. Then render from after effects takes it to over a gig!

Try exporting with the same codec from your source.
