HDV scaled to SD or DVX100A?

I'm shooting an instructional video in the next couple of weeks.
The client wants it shot in HDV(HVR-Z1U) but output to DVD in SD.
I've told the client that it's probably better to just stick with DV for quality reasons(GOP with the HDV), but I'm not entirely sure. I know I'll get PCM audio with my DVX100, but will the video quality of HDV scaled to SD be better? Or is it just a waste of time?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Well after using the HD110u and scaling it for the web it kicks the DVX's butt.

Its like taking a big image and scaling it down smaller will make it crisper and clearer, the same thing happens when you take the larger video and shrink it down.

But i am still keeping the DVX because people still request it and because of the low light capabilities it has.

My thoughts were the same but, audio with the HDV is compressed to MPEG layer II. But my main concern is regarding the GOP compression of HDV, and if scaled down will be greater than, equal to or worse than my DVX100.

If the client wants you to shoot HDV, just do it. There want be any real difference but render times on export. I would prefer strait up SD though.

I very much doubt this. I have a hard time beating the quality of a 640x480 mp4 phone camera when uploading to youtube from a Pal DV camera. Perhaps the HD110u has better color, deeper blacks, or better low light performance, but none of that has anything to do with HDV.

Downscaled HDV generally has much less noise than pure DV, that's all.

It may seem to have better resolution, but that's before you have to soften the image to eliminate inter-line twitter.

Scenes that are blocky in HDV will also be blocky on your DVD, so no real difference there.

DVX has the cine-curves, uncompressed audio, and low light performance. HDV to SD has a better color sampling.
