HDV in Windows 2000?

I have read several rumors that suggest that it is possible to use Vegas 6 with an HDV camera such as the FX1 using Windows 2000. From what I can tell the issue isn't with Vegas, but with the HDV driver necessary to pull the video from the camera.

Does anyone here have any info on how to use HDV in Windows 2000?

I dont think it matters what OS you are running, just that the program is able to support HDV. So if Vegas 6 supports HDV then there should be no problem.

I'm confused by this post a little. You just have to find a program that works for you that supports HDV, then find out if it's compatable to run on Windows 2000.

Well that's what I thought when I started my research. But it would seem that it is not that simple. For example, the system requirements of Vegas 6 state that it will work on Windows 2000, but Windows XP is required for HDV support. This got me wondering, so I did some digging.

Apparently, you need a driver for Windows in order to see your camera as a capture device. Without that driver, it doesn't matter that your program works on Windows 2000, it won't be able to capture from the camera. You'll be able to edit HDV files captured on another system, but not bring them into your machine directly. This is obviously a problem.

The matter is complicated by the fact that there is apparently no official driver support for HDV capture under Windows 2000. I had read on various places that there is apparently some kind of a way to force the Windows XP driver to work under Windows 2000. But no one has gone into any detail.

My question remains: how can you capture HDV in Windows 2000?
