hdv capture

I'm trying to capture HDV footage from my Sony HDR-HC9 (1080i on miniDV tape) through i-LINK (fire wire).
Edius 5 recognizes the camera and I can fully control it (Fast Forward, rewind etc).

The problem is that when I hit the "capture" tab , the "capture" screen appears , but nothing is actually captured. Camera is rolling and the time code on edius is couting as but a a gray frame is displayed on the screen (the capture screen of edius, I mean), and no capture file is saved anywhere

any ideas?

(computer specs are ok, since I'm editing HDP2 content with no problems)

What OS? Some people with Windows 7 have reported problems and had to change to a legacy driver for firewire.

I'm on WinXP sp3 (Core2Duo 2.66Ghz, 2GB Ram, ATI1650HDPro)

pls note that capturing "normal" SD footage (and not HDV) from the same SonyCam through firewire using "Generig OHCI" capture option works fine...

If this were a jvc camera like what i have(hd100/200), thats a symptom of a blown firewire. Try another camera to be sure.

yes, thats the case in a JVC camera. Actually a most documented defect of the HDxx series of cameras. I seldom hear about it on sony cams.

Thanks for the tip on changing the Firewire driver to legacy on Windows 7! Edius wasn't able to talk to my JVC GYHD111e at all. I knew it was fine on XP as I multiboot. All fixed now and rock solid.
Cheers.
