speed changes look strange

I'm using vegas 8. I'm working with footage shot with my HVX at 60p, when i speed up the footage to have it play back at real time (not slowmo) it looks stange, I speed it up to 250%. Should this be real time? It looks faster. I thought that 60p was 2.5x slower than real time. I'm working with a 24p timeline. Also the speed up footage looks a little strobe like. Is this a resampling issue? I'm using smart resampling now. thanks.

Did you shoot in 24p (recording mode) with a frame rate of 60p (scene file)? Or was it just 60p (recording mode)?

Also, are you bringing in the footage as an MXF or are you converting with Raylight?

yes, I shot at 24pn and used a scene file for the 60p. i'm using mxf files on the time line with raylight running in red mode.

Right-click on the clip in the media pool, and check its properties. If it says it's 29.97 or 59.94, then it's already at full speed -- speeding it up will make it faster and give you the results you see.

ok I think I got it..

ok I think I got it..

So if I want to edit a clip and have it play at real time then at a certain point "ramp" down for slow motion I would have to shoot in 60P recording mode in order to get that silky smooth slow motion that i'm looking for?

The clip properties say that it's 23.976fps so I guess it makes sense now.

If it's 23.976, and you shot it with a frame rate of 60 fps, then it should play back as slo-mo. Speeding it up 2.5x SHOULD restore it to the "real-world" speed.

So, it might be a resample issue, as you touched upon. Try the different settings.
