GH3 HDR?

Do you think the GH3 will be capable of taking nice HDR shots?
Did anyone have success with this with the GH2? I would love to see samples.

I'm also looking for a tutorial on how to perform HDR shots with the GH2/3.

Are you asking about HDR photo's or videos? I assume video since this is a video site....and I don't know how you would do that with the limited dynamic range of the GH2's.

With 1080-60p it would be quite possible to to do every other frame at +/- 2ev depending on the scene, then blend in post. It has been implemented in Magic Lantern for the Canon's, but at only 30p the result is less than desireable and most folks just gave up on it.

With that being said, I highly doubt it will be a video feature any time soon. The post processing is simply way too tedious for nearly anyone, much less for any company to consider it on a consumer device.

Cheers,
Pete

i feel HDR should be left to camera's that actually have a HDR, like the black magic cinema camera.

trying to create HDR in post with multiple differently exposed plates just looks forced and not all the convincing.

i've seen it done well when used sparingly yet feel its to synthetic looking and like c3hammer said too fiddly to make it worth while.

good luck tho mate!

The camera has an "auto" HDR mode when shooting stills. How well it will work is anyone's guess, but here's their description of the feature.

To cope with the extreme bright and dark contrast that you get, for example, with backlighting, consecutive photos are taken with different exposure levels and overlapped. Blown highlights and blocked shadows are then deleted and a single photo is composed. All processing is done in the background, so you can take your next shot without having to wait, ensuring that you don't miss a photo opportunity.

Would be great if Panasonic or the Russians could implement this in the GH3. The 5D HDR sample looks awesome.
