Hdr-hc1

Sorry this isn't an HVX question but I trust most of the peoples opinions on this forum and I was hoping maybe someone here could answer this.

In anticipation of the HVX I purchased the Sony HDR-HC1 to shoot footage for developing an HD(V) workflow. With the mixed reviews and the delayed delivery of the HVX, and now that I've had the HC1a while, I've really started to like this little camera, and AspectHD with PPro 1.5.1 renders a good looking result maybe I should learn how to do more than shoot on full auto.

Does anyone know a good training DVD for the HC1?
Has anyone had any experience with "HandsOnHDV: How to Shoot Like a Pro with the Sony HDR-HC1 Camcorder?"

Any advice is appreciated.

HAs anyone had any experience with this camera? I'm contemplating it as a second camera to the dvx... Thinking this sony (HD) versus the panasonic pv-gs500 or a used GL1... thoughts?

You just can't compare a single cmos (entry level) hd camera to a 3ccd semi-pro camera like the GL1 - XM1... If You wanna use the hc1 as a second camera you'll record only in sd mode... maybe you can shoot in hd, then resize the clips to sd... So you'll shoot only in sd mode... So if you wanna a good second camera for the dvx go for the gl1.

I use a gl2 with my DVX100 and it works great the gl is really a great cam. I know I will get slammed for it but sometimes I like it better than the DVX.

Now I just got back from the store with my new Hdr hc1 and captured about 10 seconds before the battery went dead so now it is on charge.

I just captured it to my computer and it looks great. I am planing to get the z1 and thought that the hc1 would be good to use as a deck and handy for b roll.

The hc1 has been discontinued that is why I bought it first this was the last one they had and they won’t be getting any more.

After seeing how great the video looks I can hardly wait to see the footage from the z1.

I have the "Hands On" DVD for my FX1 and I think it was a great purchase. There are lots of tidbits that aren't in the manual for the camera also.

I would buy it from B&H Photo as I know mine was like $10 cheaper than directly from the Hands On site.

Another option you might look at is the JVC GY-DV300U. At the prices they are going for used nowadays (JVC discontinued them), that's a heck of a lot of camera for the money. I got one for under a grand (although 1200-1300 is more typical), with only 20 hours on the drum.
