HDR-HC1... $2k for HD?!?

An article from Popular Sience raves about how Sony was able to make this HD camera so tiny. But how good will it be? After bumping into the article and quickly finished it (NOT extensive enough) I jumped in the Sony site to find that they are shipping the HDR-HC1 "on or before July 15th".

Quick facts: :undecided
1080i (24p??? ...ya, right!, no frame rates listed)
1/3" 3000K Pixel CMOS Sensor (one)
1983K Pixels in 16:9 and 1486K Pixels in 4:3
Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens (10x)
2.7" 18:9 touch-screen
USB 1.1 (no streaming)
IEEE1394
Mini microphone imput (one?)
it is tiny 3" x 4" x 7.5"
weighs 2lbs! (I DO like this one)

Does anyone know more about it?
How good could it be?
Will it be only for consumers, B camera and documentaries?

I'd love to have one just for fun, but why when my  HVX-200  won't be that much heavier.

One sensor, definitely no 24p. There's a forum devoted to it on DVInfo; last thing they said was no manual iris or manual exposure control(!) Seems definitely aimed squarely at the consumer, like a Sony version of the much-hated JVC HD1.

CMOS chip is interesting though.

Sony wants to saturate the market with HDV, try to get it embraced by consumers. Not a bad idea, since it is a consumer format.

I'm not starting this religious discussion again but remember that DV was reguarded a "consumer format" at the beginning as well. But hey, of course it is not licensed by Pany, well then ... ;)

Looks like a nice camcorder. I'll wait about 2 years and Best Buy will have it for $499

I think Sony were wise to introduce the FX1 and Z1 before the consumer cameras. That way, it won't be labelled as quite such a consumer format... although, for many it always will be.
