Hdr-fx1 3-ccd ?

The FX1 is a great little HDV camcorder. If all you want is a 60i "video" look, the FX1 does very well. Watch the price though, because the Canon XHA1 is a better, sharper, more powerful camcorder with a 1080/24p mode for filmlike feel, better audio inputs, longer zoom range, and just overall (I think) a better camera than the FX1, and it's around $3500 so it's just a little bit more.

The fx1 is really good cam, a best buy probably. You shoud be careful if you are buying used cam, because there is no counter, (whic could be reset) and you should tryout manuall settings ( iris, focus) because i have some problems with them after 2 years of work wit cam.

good point, but if i were to buy that camera, it would be new. but i dont know if i want that camera. i would a camera that gave it the documentary look to it, if that camera can do stuff like that then, may look into it.

what kind of camera would i need to make a true pro documentary video? links

I think the XHA1 is a better camcorder than the FX1 in all ways. No way would I pay $3100 for an FX1, when the XHA1 is available for $3600. If the FX1 were $2000, that would be a steal. So, used, maybe -- but new? The Canon is just the better product in that price bracket.

I just sold my FX1 for the A1 and I would say even though the A1 is the hands down winner overall there's a bunch of features that I missed about the FX1. For one thing, the zoom ring is leap and bound ahead of the A1 in term of sensitivity. The LCD on the A1 is also one of the worst I've seen. It's small, cramped and represented the color and exposure so poorly that most of my shooting is guess work. The FX1 LCD at least have the correct exposure and it's bigger. My last caveat about the A1 is trivial but annoying: the battery charger. To charge the battery, you have to remove it from the camera and plug it into an included adapter; then if you want to run the camera off of an outlet, you need to insert an AC charger into the camera and plug that into the adapter as well. Worst part is that you can't charge the battery AND run the camera on AC at the same time; it's one or the other. Compared with the way the FX1 simply plugs into the charger, this is a huge annoyance.

Before I sold it I used the FX1 to shoot a documentary and it works well; not sure what you mean by the "documentary look."

just like a good looking picture, like in "life aquatic". i wanna use film and a hd camera, but i dont know what a good hd camera to use, for a documentary. to get a real good looking picture, and i know you basically get what you paid for, to get a good picture. but i may just wanna rent a hd camera.

Are you referring to A Life Aquatic? If I'm not mistaken that was shot on film and it's not a documentary. The FX1 won't even come close to giving you that look on a run and gun documentary where you can't properly set up the scene. Don't get me wrong, the camera is capable of amazing looking stuff, but at the sub 10k price range it just can't do miracle.
