HDMI signal ...

Is the HDMI signal out of the camera fully recordable? I'm a bit confused on this issue. I'm considering this camera but will need to be able to record to a Nano/Flash unit while shooting.

Are there anyway to capture the signal at higher chroma sampling than 4:2:0? Such as USB 2.0 or HDMI? I used to use software D-VHS to record high def TV programs off Cable box in Bay area.

The signal coming straight off the chips is 4:2:2... so if he's recording to a Nano/Flash unit, he should be golden

I don't think the camera has any video input capabilities other than the lens itself.

I would think the signal would be good enough to get the full 4.2.2 signature. I do know that the Red, before the last build, was not out putting a recordable HDMI output signal, so, that got me wondering about the 150.

Im wondering the same thing. i have a green screen shoot coming up and while Im confident in pulling decent keys I would love to have 4.2.2 to make sure. What is the best way to capture straight out of the cam, and what else would I need?

----- You can use nanoFlash unit while shooting since it is a Portable handy Device.
Or - You can use BlackMagic Intensity Pro card in your MAC or PC.
Or - You can use AJA Ki Pro which is a Stand-Alone Tapeless Device captures on a Harddisk. (Only in ProRes)
Or - You can use Matrox MXO2 mini which will let you capture video even on Notebook too.

All these things will capture your Video in true 4:2:2 Chroma Sampling from HDMI Input.

Thanks RaviSun. It definitely looks like the Blackmagic is the economical way to go. My problem is I only have a Macbook pro now and no desktop setup. Also how does this transfer? Do you still record in the field to sdhc and than capture through the hdmi from the sd cards or do you have to be connected to the computer and capture live to get proper 4.2.2? Sorry if this is a stupid question but the whole hdmi export and color sampling stuff is pretty new to me and Im trying to learn as much as I can for a big green screen shoot.

To the best of my knowledge, only the, AJA Ki Pro, XDR and Nanoflash will capture the action in 4.2.2 as stand alone units. The BlackMagic Intensity Pro card and the Matrox MXO2 mini require a computer to record.
On the stand alone units ... it's a bit like goldie locks and the three bears. AJA Ki Pro is a papa bear ... bit unwieldy, the XDR big mama and the nanoflash ... well just right.

Thanks! I spent many many hours squeezing down the design to fit in the nanoFlash cabinet. No problem recording the HDMI signal in 4:2:2 color space at bit rates up to 160 Mbps in the XDCAM CODEC.

So I guess there are no laptop solutions at the moment. The intensity seems great but I'm not going to lug around a tower to shoots and the other options are just to expensive for me right now. I have other gear to buy.

MXO2 mini works with both MAC & PC and also MACBook & PCBook. It is an external device which also offers good monitoring solution.
It doesn't even sounds expensive for what it offers.

No, you can't get uncompressed 4:2:2, if you record on SDHC and capture thru HDMI. Because in this way, its already compressed in AVCHD 4:2:0.
You have to record it LIVE on field thru HDMI.

that's what I figured, just wanted make sure. I will definitely take a look at the mxo. I would love to make my life easier keying greenscreen.

No it doesn't... I wish this was out when I bought my Intensity Pro... this looks way more useful, given it can be plugged into a laptop.

Yeah this think looks great. I originally just saw the MXO2 for $1600 and didn't check out the mini. $450 is definitely a good price for what it does.
