HDMI recording versus SDI recording

Will it make any difference to record from the HDMI output to sat a Ninja recorder or from the SDI to a sdi recorder?

It's way too early to know whether the Ninja performs to the same level as recorders that cost 4x to 8x as much. I would love to see a simultaneous recording of HD-SDI out to a Ki Pro while simultaneously sending HDMI out to the Ninja, because theoretically the results should be absolutely identical. If they are, the Ninja would appear to be quite a value. If they're not identical, we'd know that and would be better prepared to make appropriate buying decisions.

And HDMI is a horrible connector, but you can get locking HDMI cables that make it less horrible. If you have the choice of going HD-SDI or HDMI to a recorder, HD-SDI is a much superior choice.

I agree with all of this. IF they record the same quality I think using the locking HDMI cable might be worth the extra money you save not to mention the extra monitor integrated.

It is my understanding that recording with hdmi you will have to hit record on the camera and the external if you want dual recording.

I have read several posts stating that HDMI can't send a 10bit signal, only 8 bit. Any truth to this?

In this case - the AF101 - the output signal is 8bit on the SDI and on the HDMI. To my knowlege the Sony F3 is 10 bits on the SDI out.
