HDMI Out

I've been googling for this and I've found conflicting answers, so I figured someone who owns one would be able to say for sure.

Does the 5D have live video out? Does it shut off the camera LCD when outputting an HDMI signal? Is the same for RCA out?

Again, I assume this has been asked already but I've found conflicting answers all over the web.
 
Yes, the camera does live video-out while recording. Yes, the camera's LCD shuts off when outputting the video signal. I'm surprised that you'd find conflicting answers.
 
I was at B&H yesterday and I was told that the HDMI doesn't really put out a full HD signal. Does that sound right?

He was saying that if it did, then there would be no need for a RED and blah blah blah. In theory his point made sense, but does anyone else have any idea about the validity of his statement?
 
it is only when you hit the record button the monitor hdmi signal gets the res kicked down. i guess it needs to put the power to record the 1080p to compact flash card.
 
Don't forget you can use your laptop as a monitor for any Canon HD-DSLR and it stays at full rez while recording.
 
Something that I don't understand... Does this solution offer full HD 1080p recording??!

Without any crops, nothing at all?
 
The video states that video can not be recorded with this method.

Seems like we are almost there with these cameras but not yet :(
