What do you mean? The hdmi does output 1080/720 & 480p. (i am assuming you mean, that the GH3 doesn't output 480 via HDMI?)Could all this be fixed with a Panasonic hardware update?
IMO you have 4 options:
1. IMO, the best answer is to get the AV cable DMW-AVC1 to plug into the A/V digtial port on the camera then to hook to the RCA port into the sled. (the port is also the usb port for the computer ( but its not the standard usb cable) - In the manual, it says - you will not be able to use the "viewfinder", but the OLED screen will work.
2nd, you can try this:
Blackmagicdesign makes the "Battery Converter HDMI to SDI" with an 2 hour internal battery. (no need for extra power)
So you would take the HDMI out from camera to the converter, (somehow you will need to mount by the camera on top of the sled)
then you need to connect the battery converter SDI (BNC connector) to RCA cable to the Steadicam using this cable.
Then you have to make sure the settings of the battery converter is correct. (1080/720/480p to 480p SD)
(if someone knows this wont work, please tell me)
or 3rd, you can go the unconventional way, get an HD monitor and modify your steadicam to run a hdmi cable down into the sled.

or 4th, get the Pilot HD steadicam.

If he has the standard monitor that came with the Pilot it is (SD-SDI) which is analog-composite SD signal. Is the Steadicam monitor analog composite SD or digital SDI?
YesEDIt: It looks like the GH3 provides a 480p analog SD video/audio output from the camera
No, it uses the mini-usb. Which is the A/V Digital port under the Mini-hdmi port on the GH3via the mini-HDMI portusing the DMW-AVC1 cable.
