HDMI out not working while recording/only records for a few seconds

I am trying to use my monitor with the 5D but I am having some troubles. It works fine while I am not recording but as soon as I hit record the screen goes black and then only records for about 5 seconds and will automatically stop recording. I'm using a SanDisk 90 MB/s card so I doubt the recording issue has to due with my card. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Are you using an HDMI amplifier/splitter by any chance?

I should have updated my post. I'm pretty sure the cause of the problem is that my monitor doesn't seem to be able to automatically switch from 1080 to 480.

Ahhhhh. Yes, an auto sensing monitor is best with the 5DMKII.
