HDMI out monitor on GH13?

Hi all

I've read that it isn't possible to use the hdmi out whilst recording (to attach a monitor) but has this changed with the tester 13 hack?

I know I'm out of date but I really hoped this would be possible. If it is can anyone recommend a good starter monitor at about 7"? Do they all use the battery from the camera (presumably not) or do they have their own battery?

If this is not possible... Well... Damn :(
 
There is no monitor out on the GH1 unfortunately even with the hack. I suppose it could be added in the future, but it seems like much of the research is going into the GH2 now. This is one of the big selling points of the GH2. I have a friend who used a Lilliput on his 5D and complained a lot so he upgraded with a SmallHD. He also mentioned it wasn't so bad shooting with the camera LCD, but if you have clients, then it might be a necessity.
 
thats interesting... as I'm new to using the GH1 as a main cam if after a few weddings I find that I need a monitor I might buy a GH2 body and keep the GH1 as a spare. At the price they sell at for body only thats one of the big advantages, you can buy as many as you need!

I'll go and read up on the other big differences between the GH1 and GH2 now..

Be sure to check out the Extra Tele Conversion (ETC) feature. Imagine having your 50mm become a 130mm at the push of a button. And here's the kicker - unlike a crappy digital zoom, it's very nice quality. There are sevaral threads about it here. And this gives a good overview - http://www.eoshd.com/content/457

HI, can you switch in and out of etc mode during recording? That would be awesome!

The GH2 disables the ETC function when a HDMI cable is connected. ETC is a great feature but it has some artifacts. The GH1 can do ETC in photo mode only, it does not preview as an extended zoom, you only see it on the final and reviewed still image.
 
ok so this is a software part of the GH2, not a piece of hardward that you can buy for the GH1? Is that correct?
