HDMI on 5D via blackmagic convertor only gives small image in monitor?

I just bought the BlackMagic Mini Convertor (HDMI to HD-SDI).
Even before recording the viewable image is about half the size of the monitor itself (Panasonic 8.4").
When I scroll through inputs on the monitor it says that the signal is 1080i 59.94 ?
If it were 1080i it would certainly fill the full screen of the HD monitor ... but it's not.
Anyone know what i may be doing wrong... ?

thanks,
Michael

Warning. I just got off the phone with Black Magic and they told me their converter doesn't fully support the signal that comes out of the 5D MK II (which is why I'm getting the tiny image on my HD monitor).

I talked to some guys down and band pro and their getting full resolution via the AJA converter and have designed a custom cable that allows you to plug into anton bauer batteries too.
I'm exchanging the black magic for aja.

I was just wondering since the output of the 7D has changed slightly from the 5D . I read somewhere that someone has having problems with the AJA - picture goes black - glad to hear you're getting it to work. I have the exact same monitor.

Did you manage to find a 5v solution for d-tap?

Yeah actually I did. I just talked to Band Pro in here in LA yesterday and they had by chance just custom made the d-tap that day. 75$ bucks, a little pricey but worth it IMO.

5D only outputs HDMI @ VGA resolution. hook it up too any monitor and it has a box around it..

It outputs 1080i 29.97 (out of the HDMI) when you're NOT recording... you can get full screen HD with the signal.
As soon as you hit record it drops down the 480P.

Edit: you were right. It's not full screen, I just had the "HD ZOOM" on the monitor on so it gave me a damn near full screen image. Anyway, this will have to be the work around for me.

Don't quote me here, but I believe I was told that the 7D doesn't do that...

I was actually referring to the 5D not the 7D.
I edited my previous post, I was wrong (and I'm sure this is the case with the 7D as well).

Even though the camera's HDMI is outputting a 1080i 29.97 it's pillar boxed and small. I didn't realize that I had the "hd zoom" on my monitor activated. Anyway, this is a decent work around because when zoomed in you get almost the full screen image & and it looks good... certainly good enough to judge focus.
