GH2 HDMI monitoring with a GH2...

Ok so google has been my best friend now for a couple of hours, but I still don't get it...

GH2 connected to an HDMI monitor, can it record 1080 24p or not? Some say that it will switch to 1080 50i, other say that only the image on the monitor turns into 50i? I understand that the camera can't record 720 at all with a monitor connected, if I understand it right. Some say that "it records garbage AVCHD files" to the card, does this mean that if I run a hacked GH2 with a monitor, it won't work and only give me the standard bitrate?

Really confused right now... help please!
 
Car3o, your link does not pertain to what Tass is asking about.

The GH2 will record 1080p24 when hooked to an external monitor just fine (hacked or not). It's when you want to shoot 720p60 that it becomes an issue.
 
Thanks Gary, good to hear that! Is the hdmi signal cleaner than the gh2 lcd? A thing bugging me with the GH2 lcd is the greenish colorshift when recording starts... Does this also happen with the hdmi output?
 
So far, I've only used a SmallHD on the GH2 recording black and white, so I can't tell if there's a shift, but the HDMI signal should be more accurate than your LCD.
