GH4 HDMI Lag

OK, the GH4 HDMI output has a huge amount of lag feeding an external monitor. Are those of you using the YAGH feeding SDI experiencing the same long lag time?

I wish I could correct the thread title spelling!

I'm not using the yagh, but i can confirm that I too get lag when my smallhd monitor is plugged in.

I use the Yagh and the delay is horrendous. Don't know if it adds even more delay than you already have from the HDMI port. It's the one point in my opinion, where this camera fails miserably...

Wonder what's happening here? The GH3 didn't have this issue. Has anyone started dialogue with Panasonic? Given how responsive they were for the audio fix, I'd venture to say that you'd have some good input back from them.

Terrible news...I just grabbed a YAGH, as a gig this week requires it....I have some YAGH questions that need answers. Sounds like I should either see a doctor or start a YAGH thread.

The GH3 didn't do 4K. The downscaling that's happening is probably causing the lag. Has anybody tried different recording resolutions and different HDMI output resolutions? All of this settings most probably have a large effect on the amount of lag...

I have been waiting on the release of the Shogun to record 4K, but now I'll wait till a little pre-testing is completed to see if it's 4K to HD monitor conversion is any better. If this delay issue can't be fixed I will end up moving the GH4 to C cam duty as I shoot with an external monitor for 90% of my work and this delay is unacceptable.

Holy Yagh Lag batman!

I wanted to start using my zacuto EVF on bright days as I find the LCD very hard to see and the EVF isn't always easy to get at when shooting high up or low down on a tripod. Is hdmi lag really that bad?

NO LAG HERE -- Not noticing any discernible delay when monitoring my GH4 shooting 4K (100M 24p or 30p) - maybe a few milliseconds , but nothing different than any of my other cams and certainly nothing even remotely unacceptable. This is the case whether monitoring while recording or not.

Am using a Marshall Electronics V-LCD90MD-3G 9" Monitor with HDMI and 3G-SDI Input Module. And a Pearstone STND SERS CABLE/HDMI to MICRO HDMI- 6' cable.

GH4 is set as follows:

HDMI Record Output:
- Bit Mode = 4:2:2 8bit
- Info Display = ON
- 4K Down Convert = AUTO

And for what it's worth:

TV Connection:
- TV Aspect = 16:9
- HDMI Mode (Play) = AUTO
- 3D Playback = 3D
- Viera Link = ON

Plus (long shots, but you never know):
- Live View Mode = 60 fps
- Monochrome Live Preview = OFF
- Constant Preview = ON

Bad news for you - the Zacuto EVF will not work with the GH4 - at least mine doesn't when in 4K mode. Haven't bothered trying 1080 because I only shoot 4K.

The good news is a Z-Finder looks great with the GH4 LCD. Huge improvement from my GH2.

OK, I used your settings and anytime using 4K to 1080 down convert I'm still getting the bad delay. Tried Lilliput and Marshall HDMI monitors and Flanders & Panasonic SDI monitors w/HDMI to SDI converter. Regular 1080 output is perfect.

This is disappointing, I'm surprised there isn't more mention of this lag in reviews etc. I was going to purchase an external monitor soon but it would be pretty much unusable apart from initial framing if the lag is bad.

Is the hdmi lag similar to what you get when you are monitoring the feed via the WIFI app?

Is there any difference in the lag when using UHD vs C4K modes?

Pretty strange. I don't see any difference between monitoring 4K and 1080. Almost makes me think this lag problem is limited to only some GH4s. Otherwise, you'd think there'd be more of an uproar as there was with the audio hiss issue. Has to be plenty of people shooting 4K and using monitors.
