HD100 recall?

No chance in hell

anyone have any info on the alleged recall of the hd100? is it true?

There won't be any recalls, other than at best, a particular run of the camera (ie - a specific manufacturing defect - not a design malfunction).

As for the whole line, nope. Why? JVC has already stated long ago that the Jvc100 line was set (and that it doesn't consider certain problems - such as sporatic SSE problems; esp w/gain.)

The camera seems to be gaining momentum, not losing it, so it seems unlikely IMHO.

Actually the alleged recall had to do with battery compatiblity... that's the evil rumor at least...

Where did this come from? The JVC's been on the market for seven months or so; surely any battery incompatibility would have been known long, long ago, right?

If there's factual basis for this we should inform our members. If there's no factual basis then this becomes a rumor and should be deleted. Please let us know what factual basis there is for this.

they're discussing this at dvinfo. It's a fairly jvc-centric place and they're saying EVS pulled their stock and sent it back to JVC. since Rush haunts this place, maybe he can comment.

Yeah, I just saw that after posting. Weird. Sure would be nice to get some confirmation.

I'm not doubting you, but we don't like to let unsubtantiated rumors stand. It would be very good to either get confirmation or get clarification one way or the other quickly.

OK Guys and Gals, this is what I heard and I will bet this is the real story since the information came from a JVC Rep. Allot of dealers have been asked to send in their cameras because the new version's that are shipping are called a GY-HD 100UA and the only difference is the 100UA has s software update, the reason for the update I was told was to make the GY-HD 100u more compatable with NLE systems! Thats what I was told, so dealers are exchanging their stock with the camera's that have the updated software, which is suppose to take about a week or so. No big deal though you can always send in your camera to get updated later.

OK. I'm trying to get to the bottom of this rumour. Maybe Rush can set us straight here because at the moment it is 2nd hand information.

Apparently, Michael Escher posted on the "Cinematography Mailing List" that the "head of sales" at EVS in Glendale told him "all of the Hd100's in their shop" were recalled.
Apparently because of Anton Bauer and hard drive integration. An "A" version was mentioned in the post, which doesn't make sense for a firmware update, so this is the part that is confusing me.

Another dvinfo member, Council Bradshaw, just posted the following:
I spoke with JVC this morning. According to my source the upgrade to the "A"version tackles two issues. 1st it fixed the AB info displayed in the VF. 2nd it maximizes the compatability with the hard drive recorder that JVC is getting ready to release. There may be some small bug fixes as well. This is a free upgrade to HD100 owners through July 31st. If you're not an AB user or plan on purchasing the JVC hard drive recorder, the upgrade isn't as necessary. I'll wait a month or so then send mine off for the upgrade because I do plan on using the hard drive. As far as battery mounts, I've used both and the IDX is better in my opinion.

I'll see if I can get any confimation or information from my dealer.

Confirmation would be good. Doesn't sound like a "recall" though, sounds like a free update. "Recall" is a scary word that puts fear in the heart of buyers, so that's why we prefer to avoid it.

Thanks for digging further, Tim!

The information from the earlier post came from Audio Video Supply in San Diego apparently their was a misunderstanding on their part as to why they were asked by the Rep to send back their cameras.

I was at the HD expo last week and the JVC rep said there is a firmware update to solve a few problems such as th anton battery (now you cansee in viewfinder the battery status). Also the update has to do with something about the focus drives when they come out. He said to me and my wife that NO JVCHD100 CAMERAS in america has the updates in them. They were finalizing them in Japanand would ship in a few weeks.
Now for people who already have the camera, I think all that needs to be done is a firmware update. There will be NO PHYSICAL IMPROVEMENTS on the newer cameras from JVC. JUST a firmware update.
I think he might have also said focus assist can be viewed on a monitor with the new update cool.
I don';t remember everything I was still in shock about getting pulled over and recieving a ticket for making a right turn on a red lightwhile getting lost going to the expo. Does anyone know of a good GPS system?
