HD100 + Mini35 Footage!!!

The audio is MPEG-1 Layer II. There is no provision in any flavor of HDV for uncompressed audio. That's something that can be added in the future to the JVC variant, but not the Sony. However, it is not present in the JVC.

I don't know why the files would say that. I also don't know why Windows Media Player reports the file properties as 23.976fps, as everything I've read or heard of says that the files are actually 60p, with duplicate frame flags inserted (such that there's 24 actual frames encoded, and repeat flags are employed to deliver a final .m2t that's 60fps).

My experience on a Mac is that some programs are smart enough to calculate the true FPS of a file, and some are not when it comes to MPEG files with repeat flags.

I regularly produce my DVDs at work shooting 24PA on the DVX, and follow a pure 23.98 post path to the end. The 23.98 MPEG2s that I create in compressor report as 23.98 in Quicktime player, but DVD Studio Pro would report the same files as 29.97.

Given the knowledge David Newman shed, I now understand why some programs would say one thing and some would say another.

I don't know if you guys got a look at this article but it attemps to explain some of the math to the 60P and PCM replacement of MPEG1 audio.

Another thing I haven't been able to get my arms around is the ability to flash upgrade the camera itself. The brochure talks of ProHD XE which brings further functionality to ? What? The HD100 through flash updates? A future camera that will be coming out? What do they mean by future ProHD XE?

care to comment?

I believe the ProHD XE format is in reference to the format which the JVC HD7000 camera will be using. It's certainly possible that they could upgrade the HD100 to utilize the ProHD XE format, but it seems as though I read somewhere that JVC may not do that. Time will tell I guess.
