HD100 and Premiere Pro 1.5

I've been with my DVX since the 100 days (pre A or B) but am looking at adding a second camera. I can't afford to go HDX so I'm weighing my options, and hoping to get some collective knowledge from this group to help me.

My main questions:

How well does Premiere Pro handle HD100 footage? I'll be upgrading to PP 2.0 shortly, but let's say 1.5 for now. Do you just use the Panasonic 24P preset?

Branding loyalty aside, how well does the HD100 footage compare to the DVX100? Can they be used as Camera A and B on the same shoot?

Thanks in advance. This forum helped my with my purchase decision to the DVX100 3 years ago.

Cheers,

Justin

Unfortunately, 1.5 doesn't understand HD. Only 2.0 does but if you're only shooting SD, it can handle that. Most people just download the free trial offer which is good for I think 30-days and get hooked that way. As for how does it handle it, very well. We cut alot on it and have never had a problem. As for the DVX 100 and JVC 100HD as camera A nad B, the DVX for all the beautiful footage, is not HD.

For HD, I would highly recommend adding Cineform AspectHD. It makes Premiere Pro 1.5 handle the HD100 footage beautifully. On my older system (P4 2.66GHz), HD even runs a tad better than just ordinary DV without AspectHD. It includes presets for all the HD100 formats -- 720p24, 720p30 and 480p60.

For SD formats, Premiere Pro 1.5 works fine just as-is.

!.5 as it is get screwed up with 24P footage. It simply doesn't understand it. 30P it could. PPRO 2.0, as is, without plugins can capture and edit the hd100 footage. It applies 232 pulldown and allows you to edit it in 30p timeline.
Edius pro 3.6 from canopus & grass valley, also has presets for 720 24P and captures the m2t files via its mpeg capture module.

I've used Premiere Pro 1.5 and 2.0 with the CineForm AspectHD Codec and it handled the HD100 perfectly.

As far as the HD100 vs DVX - I have no brand loyalty as this is not what pays the bills. If it were just a hobby then I might unerstand why people want to fight to the death for their brands but since I use this to make a living I can honestly say the HD100 screams. You can tweak the color and camera settings more than most cameras in this range so you could match the DVX look if needed. However, the HD100 will product a far better image.
