HD workflow - confused newbie editor

I am trying to find out what I require to set up a *basic* HD workflow. I've worked with DV for a while, but on a fairly amateur level. Reading this forum has been enormously helpful... yet even though I have spent days combing through previous posts, I am still quite lost when I stumble across terms like HDlink, HD-SDI, digital/analogue output, HD capture card, component inputs, PCMCIA, blackmagic...

When I get the HVX I need to shoot in 1080p and edit with Final Cut Pro 5 on an iMac (2GHz G5 single processor, 2GB RAM, 400GB drive). I won't be editing with many layers of effects or anything fancy, although I would like to colour correct. I don't mind if my computer is slow to render, just as long as it eventually gets the job done.

Bearing in mind the relatively small scale of what I will be doing, and the fact that I can't yet afford to spend money on power/features/hardware that exceed my basic requirements, these are my newbie questions:

1. Will I manage without an HD monitor for editing (the iMac's monitor is 1680 x 1050)? Is it really essential to see every pixel?

2. Could I colour correct on a small non-HD monitor or TV? How about using the computer's non-HD LCD monitor, or the camera's LCD monitor?

3. Do I need to buy an HD-SDI? I read Jarred Land's article, but I still can't get my head around what the HD-SDI does.

4. Apart from a computer, the HVX, and some external hard drives, is there anything else I need?

Many thanks everyone

if you're not going to be doing anything fancy and with what you got already, the imac, then that's enough. I recommend starting small first then add to your needs, and if you need to see every pixel then that's you need an HD screen, see if you like those Dell's HD/Monitor combo.
