Quick Summary:
Does anyone have a recommendation for a low-cost HD camera that will let me put out a 4:2:2 720p video stream on HDMI without any on-screen-display interfering with the output? Or better yet, a camera that will let me simultaneously record to an SD card (or attached harddrive) and output a 4:2:2 video stream on HDMI?
In other-words - what's a great relatively-low-cost camera to pair with a Blackmagic Intensity?
Details:
For an upcoming video game convention, we're setting up a green screen studio and inviting attendees to make fools of themselves in front of a green screen. I've written some software that will chromakey them, insert them into a scene from our upcoming gaming product, and restyle them in our art style. All in realtime.
I pull in the video we're processing via HDMI using a Blackmagic Intensity. I just got the entire shebang working a little while ago... only to realize the puny consumer grade camcorder I've been using (a Sanyo Xacti FH1) won't let me turn off the On Screen Display, which ends up getting shunted down the HDMI port along with the video stream. :/
So... I now need to scramble to replace this camera with something that lets me see a live feed, without overlaying anything on top of it. Basically, I need to use the camera as a glorified (but high quality!) webcam.
Though I'd love to, say, simultaneously record while getting a full HD video signal from the camera.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what camera I should be looking at? Given I was willing to use a Sanyo Xacti FH1 for this project, my quality needs aren't terribly extensive. But I don't have the time to re-write this software before the convention, which leaves me with pulling in video via HDMI. And as I'm pulling keys, HD's awfully handy.
Currently, I'm leaning towards an AG-HMC40... but even that's just guess work. I'd love some actual, knowledgeable direction.
