So with your HVX200, your HD capture flow be it P2, Firestore or other HD capture, your NLE system and most important, your skills (the client having seen your reel which is the reason why they are talking to you)......(unless of course you are baffling some newb looking for letterbox look for their first commercial, and that's cool too)....how much are ya'll charging for different services?

Are rates reflecting the HD gear versus SD? HD still too new to have to educate your market into spending more? Hell the workflow and archiving cost more so, how does it all factor in to your cost?

I found out my customers want an easy answer to that question, so I did it like the iTunes store ... 10 Euro for every minute I have to shoot (and transfer and store on harddisk) ... which means a full Firestore FS 100 cost them a 1000 Euro ( a single 8GB P2 card cost them 80 Euro) ... and on top of that 10 Euro for every minute of edited
final result. Shoting 70 minutes to end up with a 5 minute infomercial ... gives me
750 Euro paycheck ... not bad for a day's work ...

HD S. B.,

Does your pricing also include archiving of all footage you shoot? If so do you store the footage forever? One year? Offer DVD / hardrive footage archives to client at additional cost?

I don't do much post work, so I can't answer that question.

With my DVX-100A, my day rate is $675.00. Eventually I'll get a HVX, and I anticipate a day rate in the $850.00- $950.00 range. I'm still in the process of evaluating criteria for these rates, so they are not written in stone. I welcome the same discussion.

The basis for my rate is 1) the added price of the camera, 2) need for laptop/hard drive on location for downloading files, 3) Data handling fees. I intend to have regular rather clients bring their own HD's rather than me charging them for one. For turnkey projects I'll bill them for an archive HD.

At first I plan to archive the footage for myself until I feel confident in the workflow and the elimination of bugs in the system. I'll do this at no charge, but for my own sense of security. Later, I'll bill any archiving services to the client.

Any thoughts ?

My pricing did not include backup ... I will store any project at 2 Euro per GB.
Which is double as to what the hardware actually costs ... the more I backup ...
an equal amount of HD is bought for personal use ... this simple and affordable pricing bought me 11 TB of storage at no cost in less then 4 months !
And my pricing included a basic straight cut and edit ... no FX no keying ... no
titling ...
