HD resize recommendation?

Hi,

I have been editing my documentary, for about a year now. And its al been shot with DVX. Actually DVX100E, DVX100AE, DVX100BE. The whole family.

So my question is, the material is in plain 4:3. But will be resized for the theatrical evening, 1080p I suppose. And the Theatre has HD projectors, and player that supports 1080p.

Then; is it the best choice to resize and edit, colour correct and then transfer it to a HV20 for example? Or does it matter which cam you use for the transfer to tape?

Uncompressed HD how do you show that?

Major thanks!

Can the projector also take an SD input? Might be better to avoid the resize and recompression and just let the projector do the resize on the fly.

You mean just show it at SD resolution?

Wouldn't it be better to give it more resolution?

Thanks

There is no more resolution to give it, you are shooting in SD.

The only question, then, is do you go to all the trouble to uprez in post and output some HD format, or just let the projector uprez on the fly (which it is likely designed to do). I doubt uprezzing it yourself will add to the image quality at all, and it'll have to go throguh another recompression cycle to go back to HD tape.

So, is all of that really worth it?

I love your Godard quote, BTW. I've heard other people say that film is 24 lies per second. I'm torn as to where the truth lies.

Instant HD is such a strange beast. To me, it looks like the same result as if you did a standard stretch up to HD resolution and applied a Median filter set to 1.5 or 2. It has this strange watercolor look to everything, although the edges are nice and smooth. I think people see the high-contrast smooth edges and think that it is doing something special, but is it a good image? I'm not sure.

You'd have test and see if the projector can do a better job. You're sure the fest your screening at even has an HD projector?
