HD over 1000ft?

I am looking into how to transfer an HD 1080 signal from an Xl-h1(which has component out) over 1000ft of cabling to a switcher. I was looking into HD-SDI(with a conversion box under the camera) but that was meant for no more than 300ft in my understanding. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1000 feet is a long distance to send any signal, let alone HD. :) Intelix makes a powered balun that claims to send component HD to a max of 1000 feet over twisted pair; most of the HDMI ones I've seen top out at more like 200...

With fiber do I need any additional equipment or just one of the Blackmagic boxes on each end? Also where is a good place to get fiber optic cable?

Seems curious that Markertek is selling those SDI/optical converter boxes, but not the slightest mention of what kind of fiber it interfaces with. $1000 for each cable by the time you buy one of these for each end. Plus the cost of the fiber.

The Blackmagic unit was simply an example, and Markertek just happened to be open at the time (though I do recommend Markertek, they are very good. I haven't used the Blackmagic Fiber Converter.).

There are various SDI-Fiber interfaces available.
