I'm sure this has been covered before but I'm still confused and in a jam...

I'm almost done shooting a nice commercial for a HDTV manufacturer but can't seem to get a decent HD file to output????

I shot everything 1080i with HVX200, Edited with CS3.
Everything I output from MPEG Blue-Ray H264 to QuickTime HDTV looks like really big YouTube video on there 47" HDTVs. I guess I should also say that: there HDTVs are actually media centers that are a combination of HDTV and a really fast computer so they handle HD really well. All the other HD footage and Blue-Ray disks look great?

I tried turning up the Bit rate and many different Codecs and still the same problem. Footage looks okay on smaller HDTVs, but once we hit 47 and bigger it starts showing the compresion?

Any sugestions???

Please help..

Basically I tried the preset for HDTV and I also tried turning up the bit rate. Not sure exactly what the bite rate was but it was the maximum.

Hi,

Take your media to another player and see how it plays there. It might be that their player can't play well with your content at 47".

That said, I'd likely try a MPEG2 Blu-ray file out at best quality.

Okay I will try a different player but Im almost positive its the same.
I'm using MPEG2 Blu-Ray right now. Its definitely the best but still not that great?

Maybe MPEG2 Bku-Ray is the best I can get HVX200 1080i footage??

Thanks for the help.

Its not the codec itself, that is the problem.

Its the tool that do the encoding, that has the issues.

Some Mpeg4 encoders will behave worse then some Mpeg2 encoders.

What profile of Mpeg4 does your encoder use?

I'm using CS3 professional's media encoder to encode the footage. I think the MPEG2 and H264 codecs are MainConcepts. The MPEG4 opnly shows under Quicktime and it shows "Apple MPEG4" I also have Sorenson Squeeze, QuickTime Pro & Avid but don't know if that will be any better.

Thanks Kris

I tried the "Apple MPEG4" and all I got was a 1" by 1" video? I adjusted the bit rate and quality and its still a tiny picture?

What I heard is that the Apple Mpeg4 codec isnt very good.

What are your delivery medium?

The commercial will be running on large 47" and bigger HDTVs at the companies booth. The footage needs to look very good since they are selling HDTVs.
My first post has the basic info on the project.

Thanks for the help.

there really isn't enough information to troubleshoot the problem, i.e., we don't even know what bitrate was used.

at this point, i'd suggest encoding a very short sequence off of your timeline, do it the same way that you do the final disk, then post it on the internet as a zip file or something... that way, people can take a look at the quality of the footage you are creating.
