HD Output on the 5d

This is a pre-sale question. I have the Ikan V8000HD monitor, the version they had with the component inputs prior to the HDMI inputs. Can I run HD from the Canon 5d to this monitor and maintain HD? Or is the only HD output option the HDMI out?

Thanks!

you'll need a converter of some kind. BlackMagic makes a good one, but I don't know if you'll get HD out on the 5d... I have an 8.9" manhattan LCD (great monitor) but yeah, when you press record (on most any monitor, as far as I've read) the output through the mini HDMI changes to SD.

THats because the 5D mark II outputs YCrCb.. That monitor, more than likely supports sRGB.. Theres some conflicts in the EDID.. Whoever manufactures the monitor should set/update it to YCrCb..

I'm probably wrong but

I'm probably wrong but

I thought I saw in a Philip Bloom tutorial where he mentions the magic lantern firmware fixing this?

the 5 d does not output and HD signal while recording. It onlys shows you a small windowed screen like the lcd. pretty useless. Playback is HD though.
