You must use an HDV camera, and not only that, but you have to use one that's the same brand as the one that shot the footage in the first place. A JVC HDV camera cannot be used to capture Canon or Sony HDV, a Sony or Canon HDV camera cannot be used to capture JVC HDV, and a Sony HDV camera cannot be used to capture Canon 24F or 30F HDV footage.
