HD Log P2 Viewer for $299

They have a $299 Bronze version of this software that has only the P2 MXF viewing ability of all the P2 features. It excludes exporting clips to FCP, Rename Clips, Sub-Clip, Edit MetaData, Save in P2 format. Has anyone tried this at all? Does it work well? Worth $300?

I will be evaluating the software as a part of an article I am writing for Videography and will let you know what I think. From what I saw at NAB, it is a great piece of software and basically what I wish Panasonic would have created for Mac. While the Bronze version is $699, it has the ability to rename clips. So far, I find myself frustrated by clip-names in code. I find myself essentially logging clips in the FCP browser, renaming, deleting clips I don't want, and then using Media Manager to create a new project with clips named by browser names and including only media which I have used. Frustrating to waste the drive space with a garbage clip. So it comes down to the question of value. I don't mean to sound snotty, but value is what it is worth to you. My only suggestion would be to download the demo and give it a try. And, if you buy it and the price goes down, don't look back. We've all been there before.

Gee, only 700 clams (or, I guess bananas, depending on where you live) . . . AND WITH THE ABILITY TO RENAME CLIPS!

Wow, one can only wonder what they'll think of next!
(or what the silver or gold version will run).

A little humor here, as I am sure it must do something else . . . otherwise our resident DIY programmers will have a field day with this one.

In Texas, it isn't clams or bananas... it's 700 cows or Bush's, depending upon your politics. As I said, it is simply a matter of what it's worth to you.

Seriously, though, check out the specs. The product line, depending upon which level you want, can work with PAL, remove duplicate frames. or even digitize directly into FCP with timecode skipping the whole MXF thing.

Of course HDLog does much much more. It was a successful videologger product with oodles of features for a couple years now. P2 "viewing" is just one of the latest additions to the feature list.

If you have an eye to the future, you'll need someway to catalog and index all those zillions of clips, and that takes something a bit more powerful than a simple viewer.

Oh, and HDLog works with virtually all video formats so it can index all your footage, old, new and future. www.ImagineProducts.com Or visit your local Panasonic dealer.

you sure are shillin the HDLOG huh dan? Personally i didnt like the product, the interface was very unprofessional looking. It was like using an amateur mp3 player, not trolling against HDlog, just stating my opinion. I think for the high price of it, it could have looked like a more professional application.

:/

FCP works just fine for me.
