Hey im using vegas 6.0 on a pc. Can someone tell me how to edit my HVX HD footage in vegas and export on dvd correctly. Do i need some sort of drivers? codecs? Shouldnt there be a tutorial on how to do this? Anyway if some can help me here is what im filming:

24p 720i

&

24p 720i 12fps

You'll need to use conversion software like DVFilm's RayLight. You need to convert the footage into something Vegas can use first.

BTW, there's no such thing as 720i. It's 720p.

ok once i convert the footage, what are the settings i need to put in vegas in order to edit it properly. And then what are the settings i need in order to export it for dvd architiect?

For 720p24, you want 1280x720, 1.000 pixel, 23.976 frame rate, no field order (progressive).

To export for DVD Architect, use the DVD Architect 24p Widescreen template under MPEG-2.

Ok let me get this straight,

1. Convert MXF files to MPEG files using either raylight, connect HD or any other converter.

2. Edit and export with the setting you have told me

3. Then i can view the HD footage on a DVD?

Oh and one more question how come when editing HD footage, it drastically slows down my machine? Is this because HiDef takes up alot of memory?

For Raylight, yes. For Serious Magic DVCPRO-HD Decoder, no -- for Serious Magic, you'd want 960x720 at a 1.3333 pixel aspect ratio.

Not to MPEG, to .AVI

You can never view HD footage on a regular DVD player. DVD is a standard-def medium, by design.

There are a few special-purpose DVD players that support HD playback but those are fairly uncommon. And there are HD-DVD and blu-ray players, but if you're talking about a regular DVD that someone can put in a regular DVD player, those are SD only.

Of course. HD is 4x as many pixels, so 4x as much work. At least, in DVCPRO-HD. If you use HDV it's much slower still.

It should be good-quality SD (assuming the original footage is good), but it won't be better quality than HD. DVDs are about a quarter of the resolution and half the color space of the original 720p.

Well, you can view it on a computer screen.

You can play it out your camera to an HDTV.

It won't be too long before you can burn to Blu-Ray or HD-DVD.

If you have one of the specialty players Barry mentioned, you can burn a WMV-HD file and play it that way.

But it's true that HD delivery is problematic at present.

how do i really experience HD then?

Yes, welcome to our nightmare. There is no way to distribute high-def to a mass base of consumers. The only practical way to get HD footage out to a large base of consumers is to either a) broadcast it, or b) burn a computer-playable Windows Media 9 HD DVD. Other than that, you really can't get it out there.

yea i know what your talking about, hey do you cover all of these things in your HVX Book because im thinking of buying it =]

what ever you do dont render to 1080P YUV codec..... 9 minute video art piece is ike 65 gigs.... it took 39 hours to render, and takes 6 hours to convert to any other format.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Correct me if I am wrong.

So let me get this straight.

If I was to shoot HDV footage with 24f on my canon xha1 and bring it into vegas 7 using the HDV-DV downconvert. I cannot render my footage as a Mpeg 2 DVD architect file and have it seen on a regular dvd player?

I have a canon XHA1 exporting 1440x1080i at 24f. What should the settings on the timeline be for this setup in vegas 7.0b?
