HD in FCP then output to DVDSP

Hi peeps I was wondering if some one could enlighten me please.

Am i right in thinking that if I shoot some footage in 720PN on my HVX-200,
put that footage into final cut 5.1.4 (via P2 import),
export the timeline footage as a full quicktime .mov,
then import that footage into DVD Studio Pro 4,
I can only burn that onto a standard 4.7 GB DVD which would be able to play in any standard DVD player and computer?
Am i right in thinking even though it is HD footage my computer hasn't got the facilty to burn onto an HD DVD and even if it had I would have to have an HD DVD player and HD TV to play it on?

I am curently using a G5 Mac OSX
2GHz Power PC
2GB DDR SDRAM

Hope all that makes sense?

Many thanks for your time and help :dankk2::thumbup:

Yes, this correct.

But do not use DVD SP to do the encoding. Export self contained and use Compressor

And DVD SP supports authoring HD DVDs on red laser dye DVDs for playing on the Toshiba HD DVD set tops.

It will use both Compressor mpeg2 and h264 HD DVD encodes.

thanks for your help David....

So in theory if I were to get some red laser dye DVDs,
and a Toshiba HD DVD set top,

My computer (specs), DVD Studio pro 4 and FCP 5.1.4 would be able to burn a HD disk?

In the mean time (until funds come my way) I can still film 720PN on my HVX-200 (hi-def codec) import that into FCP 5.1.4, create film, export in compressor (as you recommend) then import in DVDSP 4,
but just encode and burn it as a regular 4.7 GB standard DVD, that will play on standard DVD players???

The film/footage will in theory be of better quality because I captured the footage in HD and not SD?

Thank you :thumbup::)

Everything you want to do is possible. There is a tutorial on kenstone.com by James Fields that explains how to export HD video to Compressor and burn an SD DVD using Studio Pro. works for any HD timeline. If you wanted to, you could also burn an HDDVD disk using a regular DVD disk, (up to about 20 minutes of video) assuming you had an HDDVD player.
