I have a friend with the JVC-GR-HD1 cam, He himself has a PC......but of course I have a Mac G5.
He's saying things like....I can't capture to Mac with FCP HD? We are shooting in HD mode, and I know I have seen the application that comes with the cam for capturing but there has to be a way for it to work with Macs.

Now I have a miniDV camcorder, so I am also wondering if I could take the tapes and successfully capture using my camera.

Is this true at all?

If it has Firewire, it should work fine. Some PC people think Macs can't do anything, when in fact, they can usually do more. FCP is made for HD. Its an HD camera. Although I haven't used it, I'm sure it would work great.

Actually, FCP is not HDV capable yet. To edit HDV in FCP you'll need to buy a plugins such as this:

http://www.lumierehd.com/

HDV codecs and native support for FCP is promised to arrive shortly, though, and both iMovie and FCP Express already have the support built in, so buying that software might seem a little hasty right now...

Heh.....well how would I do that.
I would appreciate some help since I am kind of inexperienced.

Perhaps you might try getting a copy of iLife 05.... and just use iMovie to capture the footage then using Quicktime Pro... convert to DVCPRO HD or something..

but I have never done it so it is just an idea
