I'm hoping that blue ray wins. from what I've heard, it just seems better, plus, I think id' rather a ps3 over xbox360 and ps3 has the blu ray

I vote customer. Ultimately, I think not enough people will adopt either of the technologies, nor will the prices of either fall enough before the next one comes along. With the holographic discs that dwarf the amount of storage space the either bluray or hddvd are capable of, they are on borrowed time. In the short term, I suspect bluray, though.

We've compared picture quality on identical Samsung LCD 32 inch HD TVs via HDMI.

We believe the picture quality for HD DVD is better than blu ray.

But beta max looked better than VHS.

Blu Ray, more capacity and also MPEG4 codec is a part of the specs.

Saldy alot of people were saying that one of the advanatge of HD-DVD was that it uses MPEG4 which is more effecient than MPEG2 (while this is true) they forget to note that as mentioned so does Blu-ray.

i kind of hate both. The picture looks too....plastic...or something. I dunno.

And i hate how the cases look....not that it really matters.

I watched The Searchers last night in HD-DVD. The picture quality is spectacular (the film was shot in VistaVision). I was actually much more impressed with the image quality of this 1956 John Ford film than Peter Jackson's King Kong which came packaged with my player.

I've no idea which format, if either, will win. But in the meantime, I'm going to be watching a lot of HD films.

my $.02

my $.02

I like the numbers on paper for blueray, but sony is playing it cheap and using older mpeg2 codecs. The movies that are out are reviewed better on HD-DVD. It's all in the codec. I vote for H.264 If blueray won't use it, then HD-DVD. Or better yet, H.264 HD via an itunes download.

prezorg, you just missed my post earlier, BLU RAY INCLUDEDS MPEG4 ala H.264, so HD-DVD can not claim an advantage in that factor.

Capable of encoding in h.264, yes. Choosing to encode in H.264, no. The going thought is that sony would have to give up some of their profit via a licencing fee if they used the superior codec.

One of many reasons why sony in the past years has become the four letter S word.

I have since read that other studios are sometimes using the better codecs on blue-ray. Sony is sticking to mpeg2

I've looked in the white paper specifictions of Blu ray, and indeed they DO inlclude MPEG4, a blu ray player can not have the standard blu ray logo if it does not meet the specs outlined in the whitepaper. thus Blu ray players should be able to play back MPEG4 (ableit Windows Media V9).

So even if sony does not produce anything with MPEG4 and sticks to MPEG2, it does not techinically stop anyone else using MPEG4 with blu ray.

This is why I don't buy many movies. You end up going to a new format and buying them again. Thank god I am young because I'll start my collection when the play back format starts to level out with the capture format.
