HD Confusion

Hey i have a question. I bought my HVX 2 months ago and i have been trying to become familiar with the HD functions. I have an HDTV and i viewed some 720p footage. But for some reason it looks very grainy. In some parts i can tell that it is HiDef but sometimes it seems to grainy. Why is this? Because when i watch prgrams on my HD Channels, some shows are recorded on the Sony's HDR-FX1 and they look MUCH MUCH more clear and crisp then the grainy images that i get. Is this because they are shooting atr 1080p?

FX1 and Z1U are less noisey. Yes, BUT they are HDV, and We dont like HDV :) Lighting is Key with HD, and settings are so important with the HVX. you need to Experiment, and watch footage in the Footage section, and ask for the settings, IF they have not Posted them yet. Make sure you read first. 1080 has some noticeable detail changes, so you are giong to get more detail. I would also suggest SEATCHING the forums for comparisons. Tons have been done.

Here's some suggestions. Don't overdoo the shutter speed (120 should be the max or you'll lose sharpness with faster shutters)

Don't do too slow shutters, too (48 or 50 should be your slowest shutter. For whatever reason, it looks softer below that.).

The HVX looks best with the aperture set to f4. It'll lose some sharpness at more open apertures.

Another suggestion: Have you set the output settings in the menu to either 720p or 1080i? I believe the camera defaults output to 576i or 480i...

EDIT- All these suggestions are based on my own personal experience. Other users might have found other ways to achieve better results.

If anything, 720p could be a hair "noisier" than 1080, because 720 is more compressed, per pixel of detail, than 1080 is. And for a given viewing size, 720 is more magnified than 1080.
