HD B4 Cinema Lenses

Just wanted to provide the manufacturers/lenses that I knew of that were Cine style for dedicated HD filmmaking use, as more often than not I run into people that aren't aware that there are lenses of this caliber for HD B4 mount cameras providing you with the most DOF/Bokeh control and color reproduction possible outside of 35mm adapters and the like.

I can only comment on having used the Canon FJs24, which I loved and am pushing our facility to pick up an FJs9 for more wide angle use. Please add any additional cine quality lenses or experiences.

Ive used Fujinon primes, can be seen here

And here are their cine style zooms (youll see an image of George Lucas on this page for good reason)

And Cine style compact zooms

And quick reference focal length guide.

Which is quite handy for 35mm comparisons on any 2/3" lens.

My research indicates that Canon has made two different models of HD primes. The current FJ's 5,9,14,24,35,55 and an older model that were called EJ's, I think. The focal length on the EJ's were 6mm,10mm,24mm, and 35mm.

Do you know what the differences are? Esp. in quality? One question I have is do the older style lenses allow for 16:9 coverage? Also, are they as fast?

Thanks, Rich

i have a full set of Canon EJs 6,10,15,24,35. all are T1.5. they're pretty sharp, we use them together with canon hd-ec kll zooms and can't visually tell the difference. the exception is 6mm and 10mm which is a bit soft when opened, barrel distortion is very low compared to the hd-ec 5.5mm. regarding 16:9 mine doesn't vignette as it has the mask replaced. we used F900R, Varicam, HPX500 and HPX3000.

btw, i'm sellling these lenses to give way for 35mm lens inventory.

the primes are all T1.5, and the hd-ec 9x5.5b kll-sc is T2.3

selling the kll-sc for 8,500usd.
selling primes at 20k usd.

i might drop the price if someone is getting the all lenses. i recently sold the other matching 18x7.5 kll-sc.

they're really good. unfortunately, in my country nobody knows about HD B4 lenses and 2/3" formats. Everyone is asking for 35mm with PS technik.
