so i just shot a whole bunch of stuff for a short horror i'm working on, taking time to copy to a HDD from my p2 card and now when i've connected the HDD to my imac. Final Cut Pro just shows a whole bunch of random coloured pixels and the sound is all static....what could of caused this? HELP!..i don't know if i'll be able to reshoot these scenes is there a way to fix these clips? or are they garbage? I'd host a clip of the video online and show you but i can't even get the video to load into final cut. This has happened to about 5 shots. I'd also try a screen shot but i don't know how to do screen shots on a mac

apple shift 3 for full screen
apple shift 4 to draw a box around only what you want to grab

very wierd, do you have teh existin qt's or omf media still backed up to p2 or whatever you were shooting with. id say either a bad case of a loading issue, or maybe if u havent tried restart whole computer.... if that doesnt work transfer that footage and play it on another mac with final cut. if it doesnt work on there then theres an issue with the footage and it will either need to be reshot or reimported that should fix u.

its the footage right on the P2/HDD it hasn't been imported at all. When i was shooting i was offloading the footage from my P2 card directly onto my HDD via the firewire connection. I don't see how restarting my computer would resolve that, also several of my other files which i can see and review on my P2 card i can't transfer into final cut. I'd try another mac, but the problem is i don't know anyone else with a mac.

And what computer? And, btw, you should defintely do the updates to FCP 6 and be at 6.01.

If it is an early G5, did you go through front firewire port? They were a little wonky on some of those early G5's

i have one of the new imacs (the black and silver ones) and the HDD i was offloading my P2 card too was an external HDD that i had at the location.

I would update to FCP 6.01 but i have a pirated version of final cut pro because being a student i can't afford to shell out the 1500 bucks for final cut studio right now

Please do not ask us for advice any more. We do not take kindly to software piracy. You can buy the educational version of FCP as a student for $699. Buy and and come back when you are legal.

i'm not asking for advice on software......and i can't 699 is still way beyond my current budget....So far my camera hasn't made me any money as no one is willing to hire a student for paying gigs....all i'm merely asking is hardware advice. Which has nothing to do with what editing platform i'm using...once i get some paying gigs i fully intend on purchasing the full version of final cut studio, but again its just waiting till i graduate before anyone is willing to offer me money. Also living in a large city full of people willing to work for free makes things a tad for complicated

We do not allow discussion of piracy on this forum for obvious reasons. Please refrain from doing so further. It is an offense that can and will get you banned permanently. And, if some software maker comes asking us for i.p. information, we will be forced to cooperate.

No Piracy discussion. No tolerance. It's one of our few guidelines here. Please take the time to read over them.
