Anyone thinks the guys at panasonic will also (eventualy) release a HD Ag-dvc30? I would love it if they did but I think that first they will let the HVX run wild and then after some time and money spent they might come out with a "HD Ag-dvc30". I how would it be so it wouldn't step on the HVX toes....

Well, the same way panasonic made a "High Definition version" of the ag-dvx100 it would kick ass if they came out with a High Definition version of the ag-dvc30.

Why would Panasonic develop an HD version of the AG-DVC30? It uses quarter-inch CCDs. Considering all the compromises involved in designing and developing a usable third-inch HD CCD, why try to make a smaller one? I'm not saying it can't be done, just that there may not be much of a market for a camera with such a small imager coupled to a professional acquisition format. Besides, if people bellyache about the excessive depth of field typical of third-inch images, they'll be unhappy with a quarter-incher.

I do believe that Panasonic will release a smaller-form-factor, "palmcorder"-style DVCProHD camera, possibly with one P2 slot. But I would think it would have to be based on a third-inch imager.

What would the difference be?

Sony has already 5 different Hd cameras for different types of users/pockets. Canon has the XL2 and the Gl2 (there's speculation about a GL3). In the future when SD is totaly out Panasonic will probably keep the strategy they have been using so far (ag-dvx100/ag-dvc30). This is just speculation. It doesn't necessarely have to have smaller CCDS. Lets just suppose the market is strictly HD. It would be a racional step to have a more expensive camera (like the HVX) and another more accessive model with different features.

I see your point, but if you look at Panasonic's DVPRO line, the DVX100B is the only third-inch SD CCD camera -- the rest are quarter-inchers. That difference, plus support for 24p (which is nonstandard on NTSC), I would think make up most of the price difference. Assuming that DVCProHD would require at least a third-inch CCD for reasonable HD image quality (and that may be a false assumption), I don't see a prosumer HD line going much below the HVX200, unless Panasonic released single-chippers, possibly without 24p.

Maybe not right now, but eventualy they will. 6 grand for the HVX200 is not for everybody. They will come up with something to go against, say, the HC1. I'm not talking about this exact moment. Panasonic also has a market for people who will pay 3000 bucks (ag-dvx100) and 2000 (ag-dvc30). Once they stop manufacturing these cameras (in the future in a galaxy far far away) some other models will have to take that spot. That is the basis of our little speculation game here.

Maybe it could be a true 24p advanced, with pro audio, with the same cinegamma as the ag-dvc30 (I'm being humble here but I still think it would beat the FX1...which I OWN) and HD. Guys! Listen up! Did you know that DVXUSER has become so big that some of the major companies actualy come to do their research HERE! I'm not saying they base their products on our opinions HERE but they DO check it out. So you all better start writing down your wish list for the AG-HVX30!!!! Panasonic WILL be around to hear it!
