HD - 1080/24PA Advice

I have a couple of questions re 1080/24PA. I will be shooting a trailer and the director wants to shoot in HD because he is going to transfer to Film. So I am thinking 1080 because he wants the highest resolution. After a test in Film Mode - 1080/24PA, I went to the "Clip Property" and noticed that the Frame Rate read: 59.94i. When I shot in 720/24PN, the Frame Rate read: 23.98p.

1) Am I shooting in 24?

2) If you are transferring to film, is 720 sufficient or would you recommend staying with 1080?

BTW, I am not the editor on this project.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

IMHO if you're going to film out definitely shoot 1080. For future reference, please refrain from the red font, it hurts our eyes! ( why do they still have red font on here?)
720 24PN records only 24 frames per second, hence NATIVE 24. 1080 24P still records 60 frames a second but flags the other 36 frames for later removal by the editing suite.
All 24 frames a second is actually 23.98, and all 60 frames a second is actually 59.94. In common usage these numbers are frequently rounded up for convenience.

Feel free to intercut 1080 with 720 if you're doing slow-mo. It's about a 15 % loss in sharpness from 1080.

Thanks Jake, and sorry about the red.
