HD-100 inside tiny Pelican 1500 case

Hi,

I'll be flying to Tunica to shoot some video this weekend.

So how to transport the HD-100?

Well, amazingly enough, by removing a few pieces the camera fits into the briefcase sized, Pelican 1500 case.

This case is small enough to fly as a hand-carried personal item.

Thus my HD-100 will be protected from baggage smashers and theft by not being in the cargo hold.

Remove the sunshade, the microphone, all batteries or battery mounts and the viewfinder.

Please see the picture of the pieces removed and the case at:

Is it difficult to shut the top with the mic grip stiking up so high? And what do you have covering the front of the lens?

The preferred case for the HD 100 in the Pelican line is the 1650. The soft case Petrol is excellent for local protection. The Pelican is a must for Greg the Gorilla baggage handler, though. We use the Petrol in LA but shipping 6 HDs to Tunica this week required hard cases, not only for safety but for security.

I just bought the Petrol camera bag model PCUB-HD designed for the HD 100 ( $ 225 at B&H NY ) and it is perfect. No need to detach any parts or the IDX battery, and meets airline carry on specs. check out http://www.petrolbags.com/new_petrol_site/products/Camera_Bags_I/PCUB-HD/PCUB-HD.htm

Yes, but will it fit under the seat with all those attachments?
It will get trashed if thrown in the above compartment.
Also being a soft bag it may get trashed under the seat.

the petrol is a semi molded bag and is very rigid and shaped to fit the hd 100 like a glove and looks stunning. Ideal for most travel but not for shipping. Will fit overhead on most flights ( can't imagine it getting trashed there ) but probably too big for under seat storage.
