HC-X1000 - Is Amazon Partner Eagle Camera Grey Market?

their (seller)reviews look good. and it's fulfilled by amazon, so if it turns out to not be what it's listed as, they'll take care of it

Yes, from what I understand, Eagle Camera is selling gray market products. So are Electronics Basket and Sunset Electronics.

Panasonic sent me this picture to show what you get when you order through one of those type of operations:

Here the gray market dealer actually ripped the serial number off the box before shipping it to the customer. Legitimate authorized dealers don't pull horsecrap like that. Amazon.com themselves are an authorized dealer, but if you go looking at their "partner sellers" you can definitely end up in gray market territory. Some of their partners may be completely authorized (like Adorama, or Precision Camera), but the three mentioned above are definitely not. On the other hand, if you get a box that has the serial number pre-ripped off, that should pretty much answer any question as to whether you'll have a U.S. warranty or not. (hint -- it's "not")...

Thank Barry, Looks like Amazon "Question & Answer" section can't be trusted.
Well, it depends -- it depends on which seller the person answering the question got it from. All the questions are combined under one product listing, but so are all the sellers too. I went on Amazon and looked up the HC-X1000, and the product that came up was for $2,799 with free shipping, sold by Amazon.com. That is a legitimate US-authorized, proper-warranty dealer. And the Q&A had some questions about whether it was gray-market or not, and the people answering said that it was legit -- which, from what I saw, it is.

You can click on other sellers, which brings up Adorama at the same $2,799 price -- and they're authorized legit.

The third seller offering it is "Electronics Basket", for $2950 -- but they are not an authorized seller, so you would not be getting an authorized USA product.

Frankly I don't see why anyone would need or want to fool around with one of the fringe gray market sellers, when both Adorama and Amazon are authorized dealers and they're offering it at the lowest price of any seller on Amazon, and including free shipping too.

So -- to address the original question:
I see a price drop on Amazon for the HC-x1000 $2799, is this legit.

Yes, depending on which seller you buy it from. If you buy it direct from Amazon.com, or from an authorized reseller like Adorama, then it's completely legit. Other sellers may or may not have authorized USA product, but as of right now there's no reason to worry about that because the lowest price is currently being offered by legitimate US sellers. Can't say that'll be true next week or next month or whatever, but based on what I'm seeing right now it is.
