HC-X1000 Firmware Update 02 2015

Thanks for posting that!

Looks like they've added all the recording modes to the .MOV recording option. That's superb -- they really needed to do this. Previously, if you recorded in .MOV format, you could only get 1080p (in various frame rates and bitrates). Now they've added C4K, 4K, and even 1080i to the .MOV recording.

Looks like they also added 1080i to the MP4/LPCM recording option. Good for them. Sometimes you need to deliver 1080i, now it can deliver 1080i in .MOV or .MP4 in 50 megabits of h.264.

Finally, they added a menu control to adjust the noise reduction feature. Seems like the camera uses their 3D adaptive noise reduction that averages noise across multiple frames, which can be very effective but can also result in some ghosting afterimages in certain circumstances. Panasonic brought out P.A.P. 1 and 2 in the HPX250 to give the user control over whether or not to use the 3D noise reduction. In the HC-X1000, they've added a - to + control so you can dial in how much noise reduction to use. Using less noise reduction will (obviously) make the images grainier, but can also reduce or eliminate gradient banding.

All in all, a nice update. Glad they did it. I (and, I'm sure, many others) lobbied hard for the inclusion of all recording modes in .MOV format for our many FCP users, and they responded.

Saludos.

Hi, I'm writing from a translator.
I have this camera and I see a major problem is that in automatic mode does not retain any function programmed in manual mode, iris, focus ... including presets.
In my old HPX250 had a settings menu for this situation and the HC-X1000 has disappeared.
This severely limits the use of the car so do not you think ??
Greetings.

Thanks for including the original Spanish as well as the translation, it made your question easier to understand.

Yes, in the older cameras, you could pick and choose certain functions that would stay in manual mode even when you put the camera in automatic mode. The HC-X1000 doesn't offer that. It does offer you a little bit of control in that you can choose the "Intelligent Auto Plus" menu function, which lets you influence the exposure or the color balance, but you do not get to choose manual focus or manual iris or manual gain when the camera is in automatic mode.

With that acknowledged, I will say that I find the automatic mode of the HC-X1000 to be much, much better than the automatic mode on the older cameras. I do wish we could choose functions that remain in manual control, like the older cameras could, but that is not an option on the new camera.

Glad I found this reply because I been trying to figure out why my camera is ghosting especially in low light and the reason was I had NR at +4. Although even at 0 it still ghosts but not as bad as before.

Before the update did the HC-X1000 have any Noise Reduction whatsoever?
