HC-X1000 Audio ALC Settings?

I've found three audio settings that I don't quite understand and these are; AUDIO ALC LINKED, AUDIO ALC CH1, and AUDIO ALC CH2. What do they do and how are they different to AUDIO LEVEL CH1/CH2?

Reading the manual ALC CH1/CH2 says this...
If you set this item to [ON], you can reduce the audio noise of audio channel 1.
It will record with natural sound when set to [OFF]. (l 56)

The ALC is an automatic limiter. It tries to lower the volume if it finds the levels too loud, to avoid clipping. You can set the limiter for each channel individually, or you can set them to be linked together so that if one channel's volume is lowered to avoid clipping, the other channel will be similarly lowered.

So it's reccomended to set it on when I know I can't keep adjusting levels during the shoot?

I would, yes. Alternatively, if you think it's appropriate, you could use automatic level control. Or automatic on one channel, and manual on the other, with the limiter set on the manual channel.
