Having trouble bringing my self to sell my HVX200 and M2. Should I sell it?

So I moved over to dslr (gh2) and have been basically ignoring my HVX for about a year now. Every time I think of selling it, I look at the street price of what they are selling for and It makes me want to hold on to it since I have 6k invested into it from a few years ago. Should I just rip the band aid off and sell it, or should I hold onto it as a second camera?

I'm really in a personal attachment phase with this camera, and I don't understand why it is so hard for me to put it up for sale. I guess because it was my first camera.
Am I being a baby about this?

It is totally up to you. It still makes great images. BUt it will only continue to decline in value. I think B&H will give you about $1900 for it with 1 P2 card right now. Might be worth it if you want to get some new equipment with the money. I love my HVX. But the main reason I have not upgraded is because of money.

I've always wanted a 35mm adapter though. If you do sell please please let me know how much your selling the M2 for.

What are the M2's selling for now? I have the flip and rails with it. I would probably be ok with selling the M2 since I get all my shallow depth shots now on the gh2.

I'm not sure. I haven't really looked into it. I have Nikon lenses would they work? I might not be able to afford it. Not sure what a fair offer would be. Three years as an owner of an HVX ad I still only have 1 P2 card haha. I live in a part of the country where money for video production is tight :) But I still love to do it.

Ya, I have the nikon mount on it. I am in the same boat as you. I bought 1 16gb P2 card back when they were $900 and just carried a battery pack and external hard drive to dump the p2 cards on to. It works well and saves money on p2 cards.
Ill check ebay and see what all the parts are going for. I know it is probably going to be about 1/3rd what I paid, but that's the breaks I guess.

I've held onto my first camera that I bought with my own money and shot some of my first bits of video on, it's still handy to this day... and handy enough that I bought a second one for multicam shoots.
This camera is the HV30, and the main reason I won't sell, is that it holds a lot of memories for me. I'd rather hold onto it for as long as possible so I can tell my kids that it was the camera I started with...

Mind you, I bought it at $1200, they sell at much less than that now... so I'd feel a little ripped off.

If you're feeling attached, keep it. It holds a lot of memories for you, so unless you're strapped for cash... hold onto it.

I have an HV30 and I won't sell it because I might need to pull down HDV footage sometime.

i still make money with the HVX200 even though i have a Canon 600D now. until i buy a mic for my 600d, i record the audio/video into the hvx200 (i have two 32gb p2 cards) as a static shot and use my 600d for other shots. works very well.

Agreed unless you really need the cash hold onto it.

Also make a point to use it more often and you will remember why you liked it to begin with.

I decided Im going to keep the HVX and just sell the Redrock. I put it in the marketplace for $899 incase any one is looking for one.
I am just not willing to toss out a machine like an hvx200 for the price of a entry level dslr. Just does not make any sense at all. Ill probably just go on ebay and snatch up a couple 32gig cards to make it worth taking on the road with me now that I have gotten used to 2 hours of record time on my gh2.

If the HVX is worth more than $1900 to you right now, keep it.

But as a general philosophy, I think it's important to sell equipment you get attached to. It's just a tool.
