Having some issues with the Solid PL mount.

Hey guys... I´ve been battling since I bought the Damn thing... First, you need the special baseplate.. so that is another 300 bucks. then I just found out, that it has the holes for the rails, but nothing to hold it there, so ANOTHER item to buy to have it not move up and down the rails. That is TWO items, one for the front and one from the end!!!

To tell you the truth, If you guys are looking to buy a PL adaptor STAY AWAY FROM THAT PIECE OF CRAP!!!

Can anyone tell me otherwise?

With your two posts on the same subject...its really difficult to even know what "piece of crap" you decided to purchase.

How can anyone comment?

I know.. sorry about that Its just that Ive been having a tuff time with this thing... I bought the Solid Camera PL adapter (749 dlls), then I bought the Baseplate (279dlls) ... And I tried to use it today with my Redrock micro cinema bundle and wowwwww, just found out that I have to buy TWO yes TWO LWS Brackets to be able to use the damn thing... That is another 389 dlls. This really bites...

Are you saying that the device does not do the job or that it is too expensive? The goal in the design is to have the most rigid and robust PL lens mount and baseplate available. We traded lightweight for rigidity. We traded simplicity for adjustability. It was designed to work as a complete system to get the most out of it. Being the cheapest option available was not really a design goal. Adapting cinema lenses to a small and lightweight camera is no small feat if it is done well. Unfortunately, no one can cheat physics and not pay a price. With all that said, I feel for you. It's not easy to know what you are getting into with this type of equipment.

You can always call or send an email to us if you have any questions or technical issues. I will personally do whatever I can to help you get up to speed and happy.

I shot a how-to video last week specifically covering the installation, setup, calibration of this system. Until that is on our website, I can tell you over the phone anything you may need to know.

Carlos,

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond to my thread. I really appreciate it. I got to be honest, The only reason that this process got me fired up was that, If advised so, I would have bought the entire package all together. What I mean is, I bought the adapter. Then I find out about the baseplate. Makes sense and it looks solid. So I have to delay the shoot in order to get the baseplate. Then, I get the base plate and schedule the shoot and right before we start, Oh surprise, the baseplate needs accessories in order to work. Again, postpone the shoot and order the brackets that NO ONE told me the baseplate needed in order to work.

Its not that it is an expensive equipment. If it works, then its worth it. But not informing what it really needs in order to be used or sell it together (the logical thing to do), thats what pushed my buttons.

Again Carlos, I really appreciate you taking the time to post and once I get the brackets, I will be a happy man again. (that is if there is no other surprise accessory I need in order for it to be used).

Thanks again.

No problem at all. I have been in your shoes! I have spent 20 years on set and owned a rental company for nearly 10 of those years. I have shot in just about every difficult environment with everything from ARRI 35 III's to lipstick cameras. All we really want to do is be helpful and give our customers tools to make better pictures.

This is our first year making equipment for the broader market, moving from super high-end, low volume, special camera systems. The hardest part is getting customers to call or email us when they are getting a package together. I am in the process of figuring out how to sell directly as well as shooting videos for our website to help provide useful info before you buy anything. Thank you for the support in buying our product.

Thanks for posting, Carlos. I wish more dealers had your honesty and desire to confront a problem head on and come up with immediate solutions.

Carlos,

Thanks again. Anything I can help you with, you can count on it. I will let you know how it works. We are shooting an important project. As soon as it is ready, Ill send it to you.

Best

Carlos, what's your company's web address? I find your products here and there but nothing for your Solid.

I love this mount. I bought it for my wildlife setup regardless of the weight in my trekking bag because I wanted to make no compromises with rigidity for my long lens support. This is a great piece of engineering. I had no problems understanding which parts I needed and did not need. It only takes a few minutes of research online and some patience. Now I have a rock f***ing steady mount that I can adapt in the future for PL lenses.

Carlos, I would love to see you guys make another baseplate with a thinner profile for us shooters who may not be interested in a PL mount option, but who want a solid system to hold 15mm rods plus the accessory screw holes that are already on the current mount. It's a little taller than I need (and of course I understand why). I bought something similar to this from Juice Designs for my EX1 (minus the 15mm rod ports). I kept it mounted 365 days a year because it protected my camera guts and was a great accessory mount for wireless mics etc.

Thanks, and keep up the great work.

I have already designed the smaller and lighter version for the AF100 and FS100. It will be available soon - weeks. Thank you for the compliments, these things keep me up at night.

It's bad form to advertise on a forum, so I will contact the admins about how to let everyone know what we are up to.

FYI…I've changed the thread title to reflect the fact that the Solid PL adapter is, in fact, not a "piece of crap." :D

Very much look forward to ordering the new plate. Keep us posted.

If anyone here is interested in getting the Solid Mounting plate, I'll make you a deal as soon as the new plate is out. It's used, but it's a solid piece of aluminum. Not much can go wrong.
