Have you tried Arri L7 yet? If not... Lwhy?

Some time ago I asked for experience in regards to the Arri L7 series in comparison to the new DeSisti LED fresnels. To no avail unfortunately...

However, now I'm more interested in if anyone have tried out the Arri L7 series lights?
How are they to work with? Are they powerful enough? Are they way to expensive still, since it's more or less new territory?
If you haven't tried them... why not? What has kept you from trying them out?

The low wattage entices me, along with the low heat output. But when I calculate the light output, even at Iso 800, I end up with a f-stop of around 3.5 when the light is placed 2.5m from fx. a spread of light Grid Cloth with a diameter of 2m.
To me that says that these lights are meant for mostly tightly cropped shots?

But pros against cons here eh? I mean the versatility of the L7-C is very interesting... no need to filter around for daylight or tungsten, just turn the dial.

I know Guy Holt wrote a nice article about LEDs but Arri themselves place this at 95 cri.

Come guys... someone must have tried this lamp out? :)

I remember hearing about those, never used them. I'm wondering how it would match with brightness to an HMI

Exactly... would be lovely having low power daylight lamps with the fresnel quality light. I guess they demand another way of lighting than you would with HMIs. Up close and personal.

I've seen them, but haven't used them on set. Honestly, I'll just take a joker 400. Way more punchy and I can shape it all I want afterwards. If I really want I'll pop the fresnel lens in there and have more than enough stop to work. Until they come out with more powerful units, they feel like just a proof of concept sort of thing.

+1. I too would be interested in hearing more about the Arri L7. Imagine what you will be able to accomplish with a 200W LED Fresnel that has the output of a 1000W Quartz Fresnel. With digital SLR camera systems that have a sensitivity of ASA 1000, you won’t need any more lights than can be operated on the enhanced 7500W output of a modified Honda EU6500is Gen-set when the generator can power 30 of them.
