Have We Seen The Last Firmware Update For The DVX200?

The title of this thread isn't meant to stir up a heated debate but maybe more of a general opinion and maybe only Barry has the real answer. It seems as though each time we've received an update for the DVX200 it's helped push it to the next level and none of the updates have taken us a step back. It's been a long time since the last update and I'm sure that we will all be receptive to some additional updates whatever they may be. Their have been some feature requests or a sort of wish list posted in another thread but I'm curious if we've seen the end of the growth of the DVX200. While they won't update firmware forever it would be nice to see them continue with some additional features or improvements. What's everyone else think?

Who knows, but given that most of the firmware updates so far have been aimed at improving on bugs and glitches as opposed to improving upon improvements, then you may be right ? Perhaps we have seen the camera 'debugged' as much as it can be and any further tweaks will be minor, especially in a firmware sense. Hardware wise though (as discussed) we're probably not going to see any new boards being swapped out to give us onboard 10 bit or suchlike either. If you compare the evolution timescale of the GH4 to GH5, and if that offers any clues, we're more likely to see an all new 'DVX-300' in the next couple of years, but this is all just speculation of course.

I don't understand why they left the i-pad app in such a primitive state. Unlike all their consumer cameras it doesn't display the image which is really disappointing. And why is there only the i-pod/pad version and no Android app. As a dyed in the wool apple hater I actually had to go out and pick up a second hand ipad mini to get a wireless remote. Come to think of it: Why does the camera not come a with a wireless remote like my previous AG HMC 151. Very stingy that! The least they could have done is to make one available as a paid for accessory! I have the Varizoom which works well but who wants to always have to hang from a wire? :Drogar-Mad(DBG):

I think so. They've added some nice additional software features through the upgrades as well as necessary fixes. I guess they have finite resource and more and more of that will be moving onto newer models. Just a guess though. I'm not sure how their life cycle works at Panasonic.

I remembered Barry mentioning in an earlier post that the DVX200 has already had more firmware updates than any other product in recent memory:

I'm sure it probably could be. But the question is whether they feel it necessary to add, and if there will be more updates. At some point they'll have to quit working on developing this camera so they can put those engineers to work on developing the next camera. The DVX200 has had more updates, and more substantial updates, in less time than just about any product I can think of them having released in the last decade. I'm impressed with how much after-launch development they've done so far, but I've got to wonder when they're going to call it "good" and move on to a DVX300 or PX280 or VariCam LT II or whatever is coming next...

Last firmware update? Hopefully not! There are some points on all our wishlist. "Just" software. Example: The mentioned display of the Kelvin. Makes match with other cam's simple. Or scenefiles: To give them names like it can be done on the AG-AC160A/130A. It is very helpful if you can give your scenefiles a name like wedding or GH4, ect. Yes, we know that the engineering power is now mostly binded for the UX Cam's and the GH-5. But never the less the DVX200 is the flagship cam in this segment. And therefore we should not be at the end of the line. The GH-5 comes with 10Bit 422 internal recording. If it is true that the hardware of the DVX200 can not handle this, Panasonic can (if they want) replace a board to make 10Bit 422 internal possible. Or at least external UHD with 60p. I'm sure the user are willing to pay a fee for such a major upgrade...
We will see what's happen.

UPS, sorry, forgett to mention the ROP update for Android to use it with my Android stuff...
