Have Premiere 6, should I consider Vegas?

I am currently editing with Premiere 6.0 (plus a minor AE plugin) Should I consider looking into Vegas? Does anyone have experience on both and can tell me the strengths and weaknesses?

A side question, I heard Vegas does render farming with 3 computer/servers, can't Premiere do that also?

Re: Have Premiere 6, should I consider Vegas?

I have both Premiere 6.0 and Vegas 4.0 (just upgraded to 5.0 but it's not here yet).

It's not even close. Premiere is (comparatively) torture, vs. Vegas which is enjoyable and fun. I have used Premiere since version 4.2, and since getting Vegas, I won't even touch Premiere (except to run SmartSound, since there's no Vegas plug-in for that). I find that the workflow in Vegas is so superior that I can get a job done in half the mouse-clicks it took in Premiere.

How's the quality? Is that comparable, or are there sacrifices made when trading for quicker workflow? Faster WF would be great, but I don't want to have to sacrifice too much. Thanks again Barry,

Aza

Everything Vegas does is absolutely top-notch. The video quality is superb, the color correction is superb, the audio capabilities are so far ahead of Premiere 6.0 that you'll stare and gawk in amazement at what it lets you do.

If you're a DVX user, there's no reason to stay trapped in Premiere 6.0 land... join the fold over in Vegas 5.0+DVD, or (if IAL has any say about it) upgrade to Premiere Pro 1.5. Either way you'll get native 24P editing, a far superior program, and much more satisfaction from the post-production process!

I think if you're not happy with your current tool, you should always consider alternatives. I have used premier at length since v5. In my case, I have never really cared for it even tho the workflow follows much the same rationale as Avid, FCP, and the like. It always just seemed "clunky" to me.

While Vegas has a decidedly different workflow than Premier, I find that I can work faster in it than any other NLE I have used. It did take some getting used to in the beginning, but if you're on the lookout for a new NLE, it is definitely one to consider. :)

Re: Have Premiere 6, should I consider Vegas?

I was using premiere 6.0, 6.5 and switched to vregas 4.0(now 5.0+dvd ;D ) and I like Vegas alot better I feel I can be more creative with vegas. Since I bought vegas I have not used premiere since. Jive is right, It was hard to get used to for the first 2 hours but once you get the hang of it, hold on tight........

Re: Have Premiere 6, should I consider Vegas?

I had been a premiere user since V.6.0 and I have to say that getting a dvx100 and finding myself up a creak without a paddle with premier , switching to vegas was the best thing I ever did. I like premiere, the way it is set up, and the way that I could work with it. However, I found it slow, unreliable, buggy and lacking adobe's support, plus rude behavior on adobe's help line did not help their case at all. Vegas had support for the dvx, after switching to vegas I will never return to premiere. Now even with full support for the dvx, I have lost all faith with the premier team. I still use after effects6.0, and PhotoshopCS, but premiere has been officially replaced in my workflow. Vegas 5+dvd is like getting rid of all the "work" in my work.

That much is true. I never called for support for Premiere, but trying to get them to help with a staple like Acrobat Pro was excruciating. They blamed everything but Acrobat and did everything up to a millimeter short of calling me a slack-jawed moron.
